Blend of: Chenin blanc, Chardonnay, Viognier, Verdelho, Grenache blanc, Grenache Gris, Bukettraube, Viura, Roussanne & Marsanne
A BLEND OF 20 VINEYARDS FROM A FINE VINTAGE AT THE CAPE
Each of the ten different grape varieties which make up the KFW Blend are sourced from the very best sites across the Cape best suited to each of the varieties – or “terroir section”. The very low yielding vines range in age from 53 to 10 years and are harvested from mid-January to mid-March. All fruit is harvested by hand & early in the morning to ensure the best quality fruit is utilized.
All fruit is crushed into small press & allowed some time to extract extra flavour from the skins, gentle pressing with only the best juice transferred to large old French oak barrels for a month of fermentation. Post ferment each different vineyard site is matured in 500L, 400L, 300L or 225L French oak barrels for 11 months before a rigorous barrel selection which best reflects the vintage is made & the wine matured for.a further 8 months in stainless steel tank at low temperature. Bottle unfiltered for maximum flavour.
Wonderful bouquet with ripe mango, orange, dried pineapple and peach yougurt with hints of baking spice, orange blossom and honeyed almonds flowing through onto the palate with some oak spice, toasted almond, marmalade, pear & bees wax hints. Fuller bodied, but with lovely lemon zest acidity to whet the palate and calling you back for another sip. Enjoyed lightly chilled with grilled lemon-butter spatchcock on the braai, a traditional shisanyama platter with mild chakalaka and umfino, grilled calamari & fresh line fish or with a cheese board ‘n good tjunes.
