Kilchoman Machir Bay
Kilchoman Machir Bay
Almost two kilometres of beautiful sandy beach welcome you onto Machir Bay. With a combination of rough turbulent seas and stunningly beautiful sunsets, the Machir Bay release embodies the bay after which it is named.
Kilchoman was the first distillery to be built on Islay for over 124 years and remains Islay’s only independent, family run distillery. Kilchoman is Islay’s Farm Distillery, the only distillery in Scotland to distil whisky from barley grown and malted on site.
Kilchoman’s signature peated single malt is the flagship of the Kilchoman range. Machir Bay is a combination of both bourbon and sherry cask matured Kilchoman single malt. Approximately 90% bourbon barrels and 10% oloroso sherry casks. The high proportion of bourbon barrels create a distinct balance of classic Islay character and fresh floral complexity alongside its heavily peated character at 50 PPM (Parts Per Million)
Nose: Soft-cooked fruits with strong peaty aromas. Lemon zest, vanilla and distinct coastal influence give way to floral intensity, juicy peaches, pears, and wafts of rich spices.
Palate: Mixed fruits and vanilla with intense sweetness. Bursts of tropical fruit and dried sultanas, malt, and butterscotch
Finish: A long lingering Finish. Sherry-soaked fruit cracked black pepper and sea salt. Long-lasting with layers of citrus sweetness and maritime peat.
