Michter’s American Whiskey
The Michter’s team spares no expense in its efforts to produce the greatest American whiskey possible. Tremendous attention is given to every step in the production process. The team is dedicated to identifying the peak maturation for bottling and follows a meticulous filtration protocol.
Unlike bourbon or rye, which, must be aged in new oak barrels, the US*1 unblended American Whiskey is aged in a way that utilises whiskey-soaked barrels to achieve a rich and unique flavour profile. The US*1 Unblended American whiskey never contains grain neutral spirits – hence its “unblended” distinction.
As was done with the US*1 Straight Rye, Michter’s has tailormade their US*1 American whiskey from their regular 41.7% ABV to a unique 43.7% ABV, just for South Africa, to comply with our local legislation, being a minimum of 43% Alcohol by Volume. Why 43.7%? Michter’s production team give careful consideration to the tasting profile of every whiskey and those same exacting standards were certainly applied to this special release for South Africa.
The US*1 expressions, so named to honour Michter’s heritage harkening back to America’s first whiskey company, consist of some of the finest single barrel and truly small batch whiskeys available. Distilled to Master Distiller Dan McKee’s exacting specifications, no US*1 whiskey is ever released until Dan and the Michter’s tasting panel deems it ready.
Profile: Deep butterscotch and vanilla notes, hints of caramel and dried fruit with ripened fruit finish.
