The Fledge & Company U-Velaphi? Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 per Case

“U-Velaphi?” – a conversational isiXhosa phrase to ascertain from whence one comes, where one was borne, your tribe and thus determining your character. U-Velaphi? Carbenet Sauvignon is an ode to the African hands, soils & vintage which created this wine & represent its truly unique origin.

This vintage originates from a single climat in the Bottellary Hills with vistas of Table Mountain rooted in decomposed granite with ferricrete & red clay allowing for dry land farming. All fruit was hand harvested towards third week of March to best express the black hedgerow fruit, inherent spice, buxom tannins & natural acid of the varietal.

An old skool Claret-styled interpretation of Stellenbosch Cabernet – a tad shy initially with hints of graphite, pencil shavings ‘n heady purple/red spice afterwards unfurling with bright black hedgerow fruit, crème de cassis, subtle undertones of fynbos, black tea, oak spice ‘n moreish savoury edged finish.

An ideal foil to a char grilled T-bone steak, springbok pie or hearty rustic farm fare or an accompaniment to fine fromage & charcuterie.

Best decanted in youth or cellared to allow the wine to settle down ‘n flesh out in the next 5 years plus.
