Introducing Our Pinot Noir:

Nestled within the newly acclaimed ward of Hemel en Aarde Ridge, our Pinot Noir vineyard boasts a symphony of cool climate finesse and elegance, embodying both earthy depth and vibrant fruit character.

Climate:

Our Pinot Noir vines thrive amidst the gentle embrace of Hemel – en - Aarde Ridge, just a stone's throw away from the majestic Atlantic Ocean. Here, a temperate climate prevails, sculpted by the southerly maritime winds that grace the appellations during the summer months. These winds carry with them the whispers of the sea, veiling the landscape in a cloak of regular sea mists and overcast conditions, ensuring a harmonious balance of temperatures. With an average temperature of 19°C and rainfall of approximately 750mm per year, our vineyard is a sanctuary for the delicate Pinot Noir grape.

Technical Details:

Crafted from the highest altitude block on our farm, nestled on the sun-kissed southern hillside, our Pinot Noir is a testament to meticulous craftsmanship. Hand-harvested in the cool tranquility of early morning temperatures, the grapes undergo a journey of gentle transformation. Following overnight cold storage, they are delicately sorted, destemmed, and softly crushed into red ferment tanks. Cold maceration, lasting three days, delicately extracts color and fruit, preserving the grape's delicate structure. Fermentation unfolds under careful temperature control until dryness is achieved. Subsequently, the wine is gently pressed, finding its resting place in a selection of French Oak Barriques, with 20% new barrels, for nine months of aging and maturation. Final blending takes place one month before bottling, allowing the wine to evolve gracefully in the bottle before its eagerly anticipated release.

Styling:

This vintage embodies the quintessential essence of the esteemed Burgundy variety, exuding an alluring blend of earthy nuances and red fruit character. From its single block origins, it unveils a symphony of primary fruit and delicate floral notes, balanced by supple tannins and an elegant mineral core. Ready to be enjoyed upon release, this wine promises to evolve gracefully over the next five years. Pair it with a delectable array of dishes, from mushroom risotto to roast game, cream-based pasta, and artisanal cheese platters.

Name Inspiration:

Drawing inspiration from the mystique of pagan goddesses and the iconic imagery of the Black Madonna, our maiden Pinot Noir is aptly named. Just as these powerful symbols embody feminine strength and depth, our Black Madonna Pinot Noir captures the essence of our vineyard's character, ready to enchant and delight with each sip.
