Grapes from various vineyards in the Western Cape are chosen to meet the winemaker’s requirements in creating a profile for each specific vintage. Traveling through different wine regions, the winemaker searches for the ultimate vineyard blocks and find some gems along the way. Each vineyard offers a unique fingerprint aimed at our quest to create wines of individual character with their own personality.
From low-yielding, terroir-specific sites only the best grapes were hand-picked to ensure fine and pure fruit. Two Shiraz components from two different wine regions were selected for the 2016 vintage of the Rhône-style blend. Both punch-down and aerated pump-over methods are used resulting in both robust tannins for excellent structure and concentration, which ensures the extraction of deep colour. The wines are blended and undergo fermentation and maturation in new French oak barrels for 15 months.
What can you expect?
A deep ruby colour, the jewel-toned wine is full-bodied and has gravitas. On the nose, slight violet, white pepper, spice, and dark fruits rise with intensity. With medium tannins, the wine has a soft, velvet-like mouthfeel; silky and smooth. The Shiraz is complex but has elegance and style leading to a finish that is long and lingering. This stately wine pairs handsomely with Karoo lamb or Kudu meat over an open fire with grilled vegetables and a creamy peppercorn sauce.
Aging potential?
This wine can age for 10+ years.
