A range of ‘escaped braai wines”, wines which allow us to push the boundaries a fair bit, try new things in the cellar and work with grapes that might not make the headlines, but most importantly interesting ‘everyday luxury” drinking wines to share with friends, family & perhaps a random passer-by. Always hand crafted in small quantities.
For the love of Sauvignon! Crafted from four unique sites – one at 500m above sea-level on an iconic “First Growth” Stellenbosch estate on ancient granitic soils, then
a block on Bokkeveld shale on an exposed ridge facing the South Easterly, plus a small portion of Sémillon on boulders of sandstone & ironstone and finally one of the most picturesque vinenyards wedged in among orchids rooted in Bokkeveld shale & ferricrete soils. All fruit is hand harvested, gentle pressing, lees rich long cold fermentation in stainless steel tank with a Sauvignon-specific yeast strain & bottled after three on the fine lees to build complexity and flesh out the wine from this very difficult vintage.
Initially a shy, but then bursts forth with layers of peach, lime ‘n lemon, white spice, tropical fruits
with zesty citrus ‘n crushed chalk finish with a flirtation of fynbos making it an ideal match for fresh seafoods, a simple roast chicken & garden salad or simply enjoy with a sunset braai.
